Co-payment

Wife visiting husband in hospital

What is a co-payment?

A co-payment is an amount you are required to pay towards the cost of your hospital admission for each overnight stay in hospital, if it applies to your cover.

A co-payment is charged in addition to your hospital excess and applies to every overnight hospital admission.

If your policy includes a co-payment, the co-payment and any applicable cap apply separately to each person covered by the policy.

How much is the co-payment?

The amount you pay depends on your level of cover. You can check your fact sheet to see if a hospital co-payment applies to your cover.

If your cover includes a co-payment, it applies to each overnight hospital admission and is charged for every night you stay, up to the maximum amount per admission.

For example, if your cover includes a $100 co-payment capped at $500, it would look like:

  • 1 night in hospital = $100
  • 3 nights in hospital = $300
  • 5 nights in hospital = $500
  • 7 nights in hospital = still only $500 (that’s the cap).

Co-payments don’t apply to same day hospital admissions.

To find out if a co-payment applies to your cover, please refer to your fact sheet or log into the member area for more information.

Does the co-payment apply to children on my policy?

No. Dependants under 21 years of age covered by your policy are exempt from the co-payment on eligible covers.
